Vista vs. Windows 7: You Call This a Choice?

You've quietly rocked along with Windows XP for a few years and now you feel compelled to upgrade to Vista or the upcoming Windows 7. You've heard bad things about Vista or experienced them first-hand, and you've heard that Windows 7 is a promising replacement for XP. Which is it? Do you trade in your trusty friend for a known troublemaker or do you go with the shiny new operating system that's just over the horizon?

I'll eventually switch when I get a computer with it already installed... but I'm not going to go out and spend money just to upgrade my OS.

Re: Vista vs. Windows 7: You Call This a Choice?

I am very biased (see my profile). I used all 3 in beta and the latest two before beta. I use Vista daily now; both 32bit and 64bit. When I rebuild my work lab I will put in both Vista and Windows 7 on top of Hyper-V + 2008. When I get my newest laptop, it is bound to be Windows 7 all the way.

Re: Vista vs. Windows 7: You Call This a Choice?

I've been using 7 since it was released and I haven't had many of the issues that I hated with Vista. Also seeing noticeable performance boosts that drove me crazy with Vista. Not liking somethings but overall, I'm impressed.

I will probably stick with Vista for the time being.

I did like Windows 7 when I used it briefly.

Re: Vista vs. Windows 7: You Call This a Choice?

I would not purchase Windows 7 specifically for Home purchase, but for an enterprise with Software Assurance or potentially for one without Vista and looking to update to achieve some of the benefits still on XP, I'd recommend it. It certainly has been more stable and faster on my systems than Vista, and with the exception of a few early antivirus version problems, I haven't had issues even for some less well known driver manufacturers.

Yeah, when I buy a new computer, it will have 7 on it... so I agree.

However, and as Mike eluded to, I'm in no hurry to upgrade both the hardware and software. And as I did with Vista, I watch everyone else get "burned" before purchasing.
