Hello
I'm looking to take my 70-292 by the end of this year. I'll probably go on a two day instructor lead course. It costs more but I prefer the hands on stuff.
Thanks to "Dont panic" for the information on how many questions and how muh time.
Any idea what the pass mark is?
Just to confirm, if you pass 70-292 and 70-296 your are an MCSE 2003, MCP 2003 and MCSA 2003. Is that right?
Good luck to all of you.

Hello pileyrei -- and welcome to MCSE World! :D
Now as to your questions...
The pass mark was supposed to be set at 700 on all MCP exams now, but no one really knows what the maximum possible was. It used to be a 1000, but no one is really talking about this one.
As far as taking 70-292 and 70-296...these are upgrade exams. You would need to take 70-292 if and only if you are a current MCSA on Windows 2000. The same goes for 70-296 where you would take it if and only if you are a current MCSE on Windows 2000.
If you were starting from scratch, you would need to take the exams as outlined in the MCSA and MCSE requirements (see the sticky post at the top of this forum for the links).
The upgrade exams (70-292 and 70-296) do not give a numerical score or section breakdown like the rest of the exams do--you simply get a pass or fail becuase these exams are a composite of two other exams (70-290 and 70-291 for 70-292 and 70-293 and 70-294 for 70-296).
Let me know if that didn't answer your question and I will get you the answer.
Best wishes in your studies!

Hi Dont Panic
Thanks for the information.
I'm a Windows 2000 MCSE looking to upgrade to MCSE 2003!
I'm going to take a two day course, some books (probably your recommened one!) and get studying.
Will let you know how I get on.
Did you mention it was a fairly easy exam?
I cruised some exams in win2k but battled with others.
Cheers for now
Regards

Hey pileyrei,
Ah, well then you're set. :)
I didn't think the 70-292 exam was so bad at all. The Syngress 70-292 (http://www.mcseworld.com/b/1932266569) book is at the printer right now (it went a week late) but it should be on the shelves soon. Most of the other major publishers also have 70-292 books coming out soon. Same for 70-296...
I've not taken 70-296 as of yet, will schedule it later today when I get a chance. I will be posting a review of that exam as soon as I get it taken.
Best of luck and be sure to let us know how the battle goes! :beard:
